Doug Handy – Sharon Springs, NY

Mr. Handy is the co-owner of A & H Forest Management, Inc., a timber harvesting operation based in Schoharie County.  Mr. Handy began his career in forestry in 1979 along side Reginald Tripp, until Mr. Tripp’s retirement. Along with Elliott Adams, Mr. Handy formed A& H Forest Management, Inc. in 1986.  The company focuses its business on the small private landowner.  The two incorporated their company in 2000.

Mr. Handy is a life-long Schoharie county resident where his family ran a farm machine business.  He graduated from SUNY Cobleskill with an Associate Degree in Agricultural Engineering.  Mr. Handy’s interest in the woods and experience with large machinery lead him into logging equipment and the timber harvesting business.

In addition to A & H Forest Management, Mr. Handy is the chairman of the Region 4 Forest Practice Board, a member of the New York Timber Producers Association, and a Masonic Lodge Member.  Mr. Handy also spends a significant amount of time within his community talking with children telling them about forestry and logging.

As a Board Member of the Empire State Forest Products Association, Mr. Handy would like to continue to spread the word on the good work timber harvesters and the many benefits the forestry industry provides for society.  Mr. Handy was recently filmed at a logging operation for ABC News '20/20' Segment - Fear Junkies.
