Sustainable Forestry

Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs by practicing a land stewardship ethic which integrates the growing, nurturing and harvesting of trees for useful products while conserving soil, air and water quality, wildlife and fish habitat, and aesthetics.

New York’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative Program

The Sustainable Forestry Program was developed in 1994 by the American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) to promote environmentally sensitive forest management. Companies actively participating in and supporting New York’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative own and manage over 1 million acres of forestland in New York.
