Tentative Schedule10 am – 2 pm Forestry Exhibits - North Concourse, Empire State Plaza 10:30 – Noon Morning Session - Meeting Rooms 2&3, Concourse Open Space Conservation and Sustainable Forestry. This session will focus on topics of common interest to forestry and environmental advocates, including state acquisitions, conservation easements, the role of private forestry in maintaining open space, and highlight partnership efforts and discuss opportunities for future work. Speakers will include representatives from NYS DEC, environmental groups, land trusts and a variety of private forest owners.Noon – 1:30pm Lunch (on own) 1:30 – 3pm Afternoon Sessions (concurrent) - Meeting Rooms 2&3, Concourse The State of Forestry and Forest Products Manufacturing in NY A look at global markets and forces defining forestry and the manufacture of wood products in NY. Will NY become a tree farm for the world? Are we losing our ability to provide high quality wood and paper products? Will forest landowners continue to manage their land in the face of rising property taxes? Speakers will also highlight state level policies and initiatives important to improving our competitive position. Working with Legislative Members and the Media. This session will include perspectives from at least one legislator on how they handle information provided by constituents and advocates as well as information on media and legislative communications. 5:30 – 7:30 PM Legislative Reception - 3rd Floor Terrace, Legislative Office Building
